Our latest survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors produced somewhat unusual results. New orders increased 7 percent in April over April 2016. The unusual part was that only 47 percent of the participants posted increases in new orders. The 7 percent increase followed a 4 percent increase in March when 77 percent of the participants reported increased orders.

New orders in March 2017 were up 12 percent over March 2016, according to our latest survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors. The good news was that some 77 percent of the participants reported increases. The March increase brought year-to-date increase to 4 percent, up from 2 percent through February. Last year, new orders were even with 2015 first quarter. Shipments increased 6 percent with some 71 percent of the participants reporting increases. Shipments were up 17 percent over February, but some of that increase was likely due to more working days in the month. Last year, first quarter shipments were 2 percent higher than the first quarter of 2015.

According to our latest survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors, new orders in February were up 4 percent over February 2016 new orders. This increase brought the year-to-date increase up to a 2 percent increase after flat results in January. Year-to-date, orders were up for 58 percent of the participants. The good news was that orders in February were up for two-thirds of the participants.

According to our latest survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors, new orders in January were basically flat with January 2016 orders. Just over one-half of the participants reported increased orders. These results followed two good months of November and December 2016 when orders were up 8 and 11 percent, respectively.

Our 2016 Furniture Insights Survey results are in! December was a good month for many of the participants in our survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors. New orders in December were up 11 percent over December 2015.

Following a 14 percent increase in new orders in September 2016 versus September 2015, the results of our latest survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors fell back in line with expectations based on most conversations we were hearing in October. October 2016 new orders were up 1 percent over October 2015. October 2015 orders were 1 percent higher than 2014. Year-to-date, new orders remained 2 percent higher than the same period a year ago.

We were a bit surprised with the results of our latest survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors. In September, we had heard that business had picked up a bit, but the surprise to us was how much. The total for new orders for the participants was up 14% in September 2016 versus September 2015. While all of the participants were not up, we had numerous participants report healthy double digit increases for September. August new orders were up 5% over August 2015 after posting a 5% decline in July.

The results of our recent survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors were a bit surprising. After new orders in July were 5% lower than July 2015 orders, August 2016 orders increased 6% over August 2015 orders. This increase could possibly be due to a timing issue between the two months.

Not too surprising were the results of our latest survey of residential furniture manufacturers and distributors. New orders were 5 percent lower in July 2016 than July 2015. July 2015 orders were 4 percent higher than July 2014. The decline in July brought the year-to-date results to basically flat with the first 7 months of 2015.
