What’s your favorite part of your job?

The JAM Jog. It was truly an honor to be part of an event that raised $40,000.00 for Mission MSA and demonstrated such overwhelming support for James Mitchell and his family. Seeing so many of his friends, family, and colleagues show up last October was incredibly moving. It was a powerful reminder of the kind of community we have at SL, and it’s a moment I’ll always carry with me.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I’m passionate about fitness, which has been a central part of my life since I was young. My love of movement and the rush of competition is something I still crave. Love being able to incorporate my love of fitness into work by serving as co-captain of Team SLightly Awesome (our SL Running Club)—it’s been such a fun way to build camaraderie and encourage each other outside the office.

Describe your ideal weekend.

Travelling to see my son! Very proud of him and the work he is doing serving our country in the Coast Guard. He is based in San Diego, and I go out to visit him as often as possible. It’s my favorite city in the USA and we enjoy exploring the food and beer scene and going to Padres games.

What’s your favorite way to start the day?

As an early bird, my start to the day is simple…coffee. I’m very particular about that cup and look forward to it every morning. Oh, and I always do a word puzzle to get my brain going. Most days now, I also like to start with a run before diving into the day. I’m definitely a creature of habit and find a lot of energy and balance in sticking to a routine.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?

The Platinum Rule. While the Golden Rule reads, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

The Platinum Rule takes it a step further:

“Do unto others as they would have you do unto them.” A reminder that not everyone has the same needs, preferences, or perspectives. Take the time to understand others and meeting them where they are and you can build stronger relationships.
