IRS Further Postpones Various Tax Deadlines to Sept. 25 for North Carolina Storm Victims

On April 17, the IRS announced additional Hurricane Helene tax relief for residents of North Carolina.  Per prior relief announced on October 1, tax return filings and payments due between September 25, 2025 and May 1, 2025 (the postponement period) were not due until May 1, 2025, again, for North Carolina residents.

Per the latest relief, the postponement period has been extended to September 25, 2025, such that returns and payments due between September 25, 2024 and September 25, 2025 are now not due until September 25, 2025.  This would include:

  • Extended 2023 tax returns (but not tax payments due with extended returns, as those were originally due prior to the relief period)
  • 2024 tax returns and related tax payments
  • Estimated tax payments normally due January 15, 2025, April 15, 2025, June 15, 2025, and September 15, 2025
  • Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns normally due October 31, 2024, January 31, 2025, April 30, 2025, and July 31, 2025
